Set up a MeshCore repeater

IntermediateMeshCoreAbout 45 minutes

You'll need

  • A low-power radio (nRF52 recommended)
  • Repeater firmware from flasher.meshcore.io
  • A USB cable and Chrome or Edge
  • Your local network's radio settings

A repeater is the backbone of a MeshCore network: it relays messages for everyone in range. Talk to your local group first so your repeater fits their plan. In Arizona, that’s AZCOREMSH.

Use flasher.meshcore.io, pick your device and choose Repeater. See Flash MeshCore.

Open config.meshcore.io in Chrome or Edge and connect over USB. You can also use the flasher’s console. Later, you can manage it over the air from the MeshCore app’s remote management.

Type these commands (replace the values in angle brackets):

password <a-strong-new-password>
set name <AZ-Tucson-Hilltop-1>
set lat <32.2226>
set lon <-110.9747>
set radio <freq>,<bw>,<sf>,<cr>
reboot
  • password replaces the default admin password, which is password. Do this first.
  • set radio takes frequency, bandwidth, spreading factor and coding rate. For the US recommended preset that’s 910.525,62.5,7,5. Match your local network, and note that radio changes take effect after a reboot.
  • set tx <dbm> sets transmit power (1–22). Leave the default unless your group asks otherwise, and stay within legal limits.

Repeaters send a flood advert every 12 hours by default. To change it, use set flood.advert.interval <hours> (3–168). To announce the repeater right now, send advert.

  • ver shows the firmware version.
  • neighbors lists up to the 8 most recent adverts heard (repeaters only).
  • clock sync sets the clock from your connected device.
