Send mesh data to Home Assistant
1. Set up the gateway
Section titled “1. Set up the gateway”Follow Bridge your mesh with MQTT, pointing the gateway at your Home Assistant’s MQTT broker, and turn on JSON enabled.
2. Find your topics and node numbers
Section titled “2. Find your topics and node numbers”JSON messages arrive on topics like:
msh/US/2/json/<CHANNEL>/!<gateway-node-id>Each message includes the sender’s node number in from. Find node numbers with MQTT Explorer or meshtastic --info.
3. Add sensors
Section titled “3. Add sensors”Put MQTT sensors in a separate mqtt.yaml and include it from configuration.yaml:
mqtt: !include mqtt.yaml# mqtt.yaml (replace the topic and node number with yours)sensor: - name: "Ranch node battery" unique_id: ranch_node_battery state_topic: "msh/US/2/json/LongFast/!67ea9400" unit_of_measurement: "V" value_template: >- {% if value_json.from == 4038675309 and value_json.payload.voltage is defined %} {{ value_json.payload.voltage | round(2) }} {% else %} {{ this.state }} {% endif %}The same pattern works for temperature, humidity, pressure, channel utilization and text messages; Meshtastic’s Home Assistant page has the full set.
4. Optional: send messages from Home Assistant
Section titled “4. Optional: send messages from Home Assistant”The docs show publishing to msh/US/2/json/mqtt/!<gateway-node-id> with a sendtext payload. That needs a channel named mqtt with downlink enabled on the gateway. Follow your local group’s rules before enabling downlink.
